When Hodges went on for a trip to Italy with his mother, he met Elisabetta. She came along with Hodges to the States in the hope of marrying him and getting a Green Card. Though some of his coworkers and friends warned that she might be using him in order to get a green card, they supported his decision to hastily get married.
Hodges and Elisabetta were two completely different people, something that became more evident to both parties as the wedding planning got more involved. When she mentioned that they would move back to Italy after they started a family, Hodges replied that his friends and career were in the States. Later, realizing that neither one of them would be truly happy with the future living arrangements, they tearfully broke off their engagement and parted ways.
