Hard Time is the third episode in Season Two of CSI: Miami.
Synopsis[]
Horatio hunts for the person responsible for a vicious attack on a woman who was lured to a vacant condo and beaten with a piece of lumber.
Plot[]
A woman's "corpse" is found in a vacant condo, however during their investigation Horatio realizes she's still alive. The victim, Peg Donovan, is taken to the hospital in critical condition but Horatio decides to keep her survival a secret. After searching Peg's past Horatio and Yelina discover she was raped and beaten years before by Mason Shaw, though eligible for parole all Shaw's hearings where denied due to Peg's testimony, making Shaw a suspect.
Looking for suspects the team find Crystal Sherwood, Shaw's girlfriend and previously a juror in his trial, had disguised herself as a rape victim to trick Peg into the condo, Crystal confesses but says she didn't attacked Peg. Speed then confronts Shaw's son, Chuck, who has pepper spray marks on his face similar a can Peg had, Chuck says he only wanted to warn Peg to tell the truth since he believes she lied about the rape. Later Speed shows the police report on her injures to Chuck making him realize his father lied and to confess to have given him money through one prison guard named Bailey.
This and ground samples matching Bailey's boots makes him a prime suspect, however after Eric finds Peg's cellphone with a strange sound on a 911 call, Horatio proves the attacker is actually Sergeant Greg Brennan. Brennan confesses he had been blackmailed over an affair and just wanted to keep his job and marriage. With all evidence and testimony, Shaw is denied parole and later extradited to Florida. The episode ends with Horatio visiting a recovering Peg and assuring her Shaw will never leave prison.
