Larry Grill is a drug dealer and a murderer.

Grill was taking a drug purchase from Travis Madison, but beat him to death with a cut of rebar when the deal went south. Kenwall Duquesne was at the construction site during a night of drinking when Grill tried to carjack "Duke" in an attack, but Duke sped away and accidentally drove over a dead Travis. Waking up with a hangover and memory loss, Duke, fearing he fatally hit Travis, went right to his daughter, CSI Calleigh Duquesne. She had him drink some more to keep his breathalyzer from being valid, then newly hired CSI Ryan Wolfe was assigned the case by Horatio Caine.

Wolfe's analysis of the trace on Duke's car and Frank Tripp finding his tab at the Whiskey Bar help the team trace the route to the construction site where Travis was killed. He's found still there, dead and with tire impressions on him. However, there's more consideration for Duke's innocence when glass in his neck proves the attack, from the driver's window being broken in from the outside. Alexx Woods only adds in autopsy Duke's confirmed innocence, revealing Travis was killed from being struck in his head. Going back to the scene, Wolfe throws a sandwich to get an alligator to move away, so he can reach the rebar he finds out is the murder weapon.

Grill's print is found on the rebar, and he's taken into custody. He gives a full confession, from the murder to burglarizing Duke's car to try and steal it Grill was arrested and incarcerated for his crimes.

Grill beat Travis Madison once in the head with a piece of rebar in a fit of rage. To get away, Grill broke through Duke's car window in the driver's side and try to throw him out. When Duke drove away, he accidentally ran over Travis when he was already dead.
