Steve Kaplan is a budding serial killer and rapist who appeared in Season Four of CSI: NY.
History[]
Kaplan was acquitted of killing and raping a model years before the events of the episode, making Kaplan a target of a sickened Amber Stanton, who was a victim of rape and who was fed up with criminals targeting women getting away scot free. Amber made a pact with fellow rape victim and vigilante Joanna Morgan when they met on a train, with Joanna targeting Kaplan for murder and and Amber targeting Mitchell Bentley III, a rapist of fellow rape victim Fern Lazlow with whom Joanna got acquainted. Amber killed Bentley without a hitch except for Fern taking the blame, as she found Bentley outside her apartment building as a message from Amber saying she's saved. But Joanna faced worse. Luring Kaplan to a restaurant on a "date" after contacting him online, she brought a gun and planned to shoot him dead. However, both their meals already left the two with bad food poisoning. A lesser crimp to the plans, Joanna lured Kaplan to the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art with promises of sex at the place and tried to kill him, and then leave the body at the scene, also as to send a message (in this case, to Matt Fella, an employee at the museum and the fiance of Kaplan's victim). But Kaplan fought with Joanna for the gun, resulting in shooting her chest while pressed just up against her from behind. The bullet went through her and lodged into Kaplan, proving not to be fatal for him as well, but requiring an ER visit for painkillers, as well as treatment for the food poisoning. Amber would be found as Bentley's killer and arrested, resulting in Fern's release. But Kaplan would be done in by the hospital records, leading the CSIs to the identical food poisoning and the bullet. Kaplan says the account and tries to say it was self-defense, but Jessica Angell arrests Kaplan for murder. It's likely, but never specified, Kaplan was either incarcerated or released on a technicality.
